Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve

My first kayaking trip was this past weekend and I’m still super excited about it! I intended to kayak with a small Meetup group based in Monterey. I arrived just a couple minutes late, and hastily got out on the water in hopes of catching up to them. Little did I know, though, that they were actually 15 minutes behind me… Oops! So, I never ended up meeting up with them, but I had a fun little morning all the same. I’m weird like that: I can go to a movie or out to dinner by myself and it feels very natural. I guess it’s one of my secret powers as an introvert. 🙂

Anyway, back to kayaking: I’m always going to remember this trip! For a first timer, it was quite memorable because a sea otter decided to join me in my kayak for a bit. I don’t have any pictures of the event, but you’ll just have to take my word for it. 🙂 Or, check Youtube! There are actually a handful of videos on Youtube of otters in Moss Landing getting overly friendly with kayakers.

I’ll definitely be back here again, but next time I’ll make sure to have my GoPro charged up and ready to take pictures of any otters that decide to hitch a ride with me. 🙂
